Diet Suggestions

According to traditional Chinese medicine theory, there is different kind of body constitution, like Yin deficient body constitution, Yang excess body condition, Qi stagnation body constitution, Blood Stasis body constitution, etc. Food has different property, some is hot natural and some is cold; some is yin tonify and some is yang tonify. We need eat food that is match to our body constitution. For example, if you are a yin deficient body, you need eat food that can tonify yin not the ones that consume your yin. The information below is based on this.

1. Blood deficiency

Signs: Dizziness, palpitations, insomnia, dry skin or hair, poor memory, paleness, fatigue, scanty periods. Tongue is pale, and pulse is thin.

Benifical:

Cooked whole grains, rice ,oats, roasted barley, sweet rice, spelt, millet, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, squash, carrots, corn, parsnips, yams, peas, stewed fruit, onions, leeks, garlic, turnip, mushrooms, spinach, chard, kale, Chinese greens, beets, parsley, lychee, coconut, grapes, cherries;

Legumes in general, chick peas, black beans, kidney beans, fava beans;

Chicken, beef, pork, Chinese black boned chicken, quail, tuna, anchovy, catfish, oysters, mussels, shrimp, clams, seaweeds;

Fresh ginger, black sesame seed, rice syrup, barley malt, dates, figs, sugar cane;

To avoid:

Salads, raw fruits, sprouts, raw vegetables, Overly sweet foods, refined sugars, high doses of vitamin C, chocolate, excessive amount of tofu, dairy or nut butters and other oily food; Iced drinks.

2. Qi deficiency

Signs: Fatigue, loose stools, poor appetite, dizziness, pale face, weak voice, reluctance to speak, sweating with little/no exertion. Tongue is pale and pulse is empty.

Beneficial:

Cooked whole grains, glutinous rice, oats, roasted barley, sweet rice, spelt, pumpkin, potatoes, sweet potatoes, taro root, squash, carrots, corn, parsnips, yam, peas, stewed fruit, onions, leeks, garlic, turnip. Shitake, mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, Chick peas, black beans, walnuts;

Chicken, black chicken, beef, lamb;

Tuna, Black pepper, fresh ginger, cinnamon, fennel, molasses, rice syrup, dates, figs, honey;

To avoid:

Salads, raw fruits, raw vegetable, citrus, wheat, sprouts, wheat grass, tomatoes, spinach, swiss chard;

Tofu, dairy, nut butters and other high oil food,

Overly sweet foods, refined sugars, high doess of vitamin C, seaweed, chocolate

3. Yin deficiency

Signs: Heat in the hands, feet or chest, night sweats, anxiety, hot flashes. Tongue is red without coating, and pulse is thin.

Beneficial:

Wheat, oats, sweet rice, millet, barley;

Eggs, dairy in moderate amounts, yogurt, tofu, nuts & seeds, azuki beans, black beans, mung beans, chickpeas, kidney beans, fava beans, black sesame seed;

Pork, chicken, black boned chicken, duck, eggs, organic bone marrow;

Spanish mackerel, sardines, oysters, mussels, clams, cuttlefish, squid, perch, seaweeds;

Zucchini, squash, potatoes, melons, string beans, beets, button mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms;

Jujube dates, lotus seeds, longan fruit, lily bulb, mulberries, apples, banana, blueberries, black berries, peaches, mulberries, mango, coconut; Olive oil, almond oil, lily flowers

To avoid:

Chilies, cinnamon, garlic, ginger, onions, shallots, leeks, basil, cloves, wasabi;

Coffee, vinegar, pickles, tea;

Lamb, shrimp, prawns, veal, game birds;

Citrus fruits; Cigarettes, alcohol, recreational stimulants

4. Yang deficiency

Signs: Chills, cold limbs, inability to get warm, loose tools, profuse clear urine, spontaneous sweating, lassitude. Tongue is pale, pulse is slow , deep and weak.

Benificial:

Cooked whole grains, rice, oats, roasted barley, sweet rice, spelt;

Parsnips, sweet potatoes, onions, leeks, pumpkin, squash, carrots, corn, yams, peas, onions, leeks, garlic, Chinese chives, turnip, mushrooms;

Chick peas, black beans, kidney beans, fava beans, eggs,

Beef, chicken, Chinese black boned chicken; lamb, mackerel, tuna;

Black pepper, fresh ginger, dried ginger, ginseng, walnuts, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, fennel, molasses, rice syrup, barley malt, sugar cane, Lychee fruit, mulberries, longan berries, grapes, dates, figs, cherries
